Anyway, it’s the weekend again so as usual we’ve put together a somewhat exhaustive list of the best live sport available to you over the next few days, and though it’s a pretty quiet weekend in terms of volume there’s plenty of major events taking place so let’s just jump straight in.

There are relegation playoffs in Germany and France this weekend. On Saturday Holstein Kiel will look to secure their first ever promotion to the Bundesliga as they take on FC Koln in the second leg of their playoff. Holstein Kiel won 1-0 in the first leg in Cologne and will hope to finish the job on home soil. Nantes will hope to cling to their Ligue 1 status as they face Toulouse in the second leg of their playoff, holding a 2-1 lead from the first leg. They, like Holstein, will hope that home advantage sees them across the line as relegation could have devastating consequences for them.

Domestic action takes centre stage for Rugby fans this weekend with the Gallagher Premiership and Guinness Pro14 Rainbow Cup back in full swing.
Starting Friday, it’s a Premiership double header at 7.45pm as Gloucester take on London Irish while Sale play host to Bristol. In the Pro14 Munster face Cardiff in a 7.35pm kickoff.
Saturday is a busy day with three games from both competitions. Harlequins vs Bath at 2pm, Worcester vs Leicester at 3pm and Northampton vs Wasps at 4.30pm is the Premiership schedule while Ulster vs Scarlets at 3pm, Benetton vs Connacht at 5.15pm and Dragons vs Glasgow is the line-up from the Pro14.
Just the one game on Sunday as Exeter take on Newcastle at 1.30pm in the Premiership. As ever the Premiership games are live on BT Sport, while the Pro14 can be found on Premier Sports.

Two world titles fights make Saturday night one to look forward to for Boxing fans. 25-0 WBC Lightweight Champion Devin Haney will put his title on the line against multi-time World Champion Jorge Linares in Las Vegas. Linares, 47-5, has bounced back well from his devastating first round KO defeat to Pablo Cesar Cano in January 2019 to win his last two fights and earn his shot at the unbeaten Haney. The American will be making the third defense of his title and he will look to build on a very impressive performance last time out against Yuriorkis Gamboa and put himself in a position for a big money unification fight against Gervonta Davis, assuming Davis isn’t in prison by then, or Teofimo Lopez, the man who conquered Lomachenko.
In Carson California there is a WBC Bantamweight title fight between Nordine Oubaali, 17-0, who makes the third defense of his title against the always dangerous Nonito Donaire. Donaire, a five time World Champion in four different weight classes, makes his return to the ring 18 months after losing his WBA Bantamweight title to Naoya Inoue in a unification fight. Interestingly Oubaali beat Inoue’s younger brother Takuma in his last fight and has been tagged for a fight with Naoya should be beat Donaire, and the Japanese fight overcome Michael Dasmarinas in June.

After the excitement of last week’s PGA Championship it’s back to the more mundane this weekend for the PGA Tour. The Colonial National Invitation, known as the Charles Schwab Challenge for sponsorship reasons, takes place at the Colonial Golf Course in Fort Worth, Texas. Sunday sees the start of the second Grand Slam of the year with the French Open getting underway at the stunning Stade Roland Garros in Paris. Rafael Nadal will look to continue his dominance at the Clay Court Grand Slam as he seeks to win an astonishing 14th French Open and take sole ownership of the Grand Slam record with number 20 overall. No player has ever dominated an event the way Nadal has at the French Open. Since making his debut there in 2005, he has only been beaten twice. In 2009 he was defeated by Robin Soderling in the 4th round. Soderling would go on to lose to Roger Federer in the final. He was beaten again in 2015 by Novak Djokovic at the quarter-final stage. Djokovic himself would lose to Stan Wawrinka in the final. 2016 is the only other year since 2005 that Nadal hasn’t won the tournament, he withdrew with a wrist injury after the 3rd round, and Djokovic would go on to win the tournament. So it appears that if history repeats itself, Nadal will either win the competition or lose to the man who ends up losing in the final.
The women’s side of the tournament was once dominated by Chris Evert who won seven titles in the 70s and 80s, and Steffi Graf who won six in the 80s and 90s but in the past 25 years only Justine Henin has had a period of dominance, winning four titles in five years between 2003 and 2007. Even the great Serena Williams, so dominant in the other three Grand Slams, only managed to win three times and her second victory came 11 years after her first. Iga Swiatek is the defending Champion having shocked everyone by defeating Sofia Kenin. At just 19, Swiatek was not even ranked going into the tournament but dominated throughout, not losing a single set on her way to the first Grand Slam win of her career. While Nadal has won nine of the last 11 men’s tournaments, the women’s tournament has seen nine different Champions. Only Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams won it more than once, and neither managed to go back to back so if that pattern holds, and if the last five years are to be repeated, there will be a first time Grand Slam winner at this years competition.
