Our Premier League VPN articles are brought to you in partnership with EPL Index, and Dave Hendrick – host of the Two Footed Podcast, offering FREE podcasts to football fans.

With FIFA stating that as a result of the pandemic, teams won’t have to release players from certain countries so as to avoid travel, it could well mean that by the time action returns in April we see a higher calibre of Premier League match than a lot of those we’ve been subjected to of late.

This weekend there’s a number of potentially great matches scheduled, and we’ve as always we’ve previewed three of them for you, to whet your appetite.

The fiery, full throttle style of Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds vs the cerebral, calculated style of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea should provide an interesting contrast as two of the most revered tacticians in Europe face off this weekend at Elland Road.

Leeds come into this game in inconsistent form, which has basically been the same for every game this season. As a newly promoted team, it’s not surprising that they’re up and down but they’ll be delighted with their league position and points tally as survival is the only thing that matters to newly promoted teams, especially one who’ve suffered with the injury issues Leeds have this season. Though disappointing in their last outing against West Ham they did get the massive boost of having midfield lynchpin Kalvin Phillips back in the team. Phillips may have been usurped as the best player at Leeds by the brilliant Raphinha but he undoubtedly remains the most important player in the team.

The injury issue remains at Elland Road with Adam Forshaw and Robin Koch still ruled out, though the latter is due to return to training next week. Pablo Hernandez, Jamie Shackleton and Pascal Stuijk all face fitness tests ahead of this game but their injuries aren’t likely to keep them out for much longer either way.

The upturn in Chelsea’s form since Tuchel took over have showed what a difference it can make to put your £500mil squad in the hands of a real manager, rather than a former player getting by as a manager on the strength of their playing days. Tuchel an unbeaten run of 11 games since taking over, with eight wins in that time and only two goals conceded. Chelsea have looked much more like a proper, co-ordinated team, under the German with defined structure in attack and defence, and defined patterns of play in between. They haven’t scored at the rate Tuchel would like, his Dortmund and PSG sides were incredibly good at putting the ball in the back of the net, but that hasn’t been a problem as one goal is enough when you’re not conceding any.

Tammy Abraham is the only doubt for Chelsea ahead of this weekend’s clash, as he recovers from an ankle problem.

A South Coast derby where both teams need the points is our next stop in another meeting of two of the most interesting managers in the Premier League.

Ralph Hasenhuttl inherited a mess at Southampton, and after some initial settling in problems he turned things around and actually had the Saints top of the Premier League at one point this season. Even if their spell atop the table was only for one night, it represented enormous progress for the Saints. After beating Liverpool 1-0 on January 4th Southampton sat 6th in the table with 17 games played, at the some point last season they were 18th. Ralph had done a brilliant job and overseen a remarkable turnaround. And then the wheels fell off. In the 11 games since, they’ve lost nine against just one victory to bottom placed Sheffield United. The low-point is obviously the 9-0 walloping they suffered at Old Trafford, but none of it has been fun.

To top it off, Danny Ings has joined an already crowded treatment room. Oriel Romeu and Will Smallbone are out for the remainder of the season, while Michael Obafemi, Theo Walcott and Moussa Djenepo are also ruled out until after the international break.

In contrast to Hasenhuttl, Graham Potter inherited a very stable situation at Brighton after Chris Hughton had established them in the Premier League. Potter’s brief was to revolutionize the playing style while continuing to climb the table. The playing style part has been largely accomplished. Brighton have become one of the better sides in the League to watch, comfortable possession and attack minded, while still retaining the defensive base that Hughton instilled. Unfortunately they’ve failed to score goals consistently and that has undone much of their good work. Brighton regularly win the xG battle but lose the goalscoring war. It’s the sole reason they find themselves trapped in a relegation dogfight with Fulham and Newcastle, because according to their underlying numbers Brighton should be comfortable in mid-table and probably in the top half.

Tariq Lamptey and Solly March have both been ruled out for the rest of the season, whilst Adam Webster is behind schedule in his return from injury. Strikers Aaron Connolly and Florin Andone are both making progress but neither will be back this side of the international break.

Arsenal vs Tottenham
📅 Sunday 14 March 2021
⏰ 1630 UK Kick-Off

For well over twenty years the second North London derby of the season involved at least one team involved in the battle for top four, if not the title, but for the second year in a row it’s being played between two underperforming teams managed and this time it’s being overseen by under pressure managers.

Mikel Arteta has endured a very difficult and disappointing first full season in charge of the Gunners, with a mid-table finish looking a near certainty and their only hope of silverware and a place in European competition being their continued involvement in the Europa League. Arsenal’s league form could generously be described as patchy. A less generous sort might suggest it’s been dreadful considering the summer outlay and calibre of player within the squad. Two wins, two defeats and a draw in their last five is fairly much par for the course. They’ve had a mixed run, a terrible run, a good run and now another mixed run in this bizarre season so if that pattern holds Arsenal fans are about to experience yet more pain.

Their best run of form came with Emile Smith Rowe handed the keys to the kingdom and installed as the number 10, his recent injury coincided with the bad run of form so with news that he could be available for the weekend comes optimism that the Gooners may well get to celebrate St. Totteringham’s Day this season if he can once again inspire a good run of form.

Tottenham were top after 12 games but seven defeats in the subsequent 13 games saw them collapse to 9th place. They have won their last three on the bounce and the re-emergence from a golf related coma by Gareth Bale has sparked renewed optimism amongst Spurs fans. Given the squad they had to begin with, and the calibre of player they brought in during the summer window, anything other than a top four finish will be a disastrous outcome for a Tottenham team desperate to keep hold of Harry Kane. Failure to secure Champions League football will bring Jose Mourinho under increased scrutiny though depending on how you count last season when he took over in November, next season is either his second season which is the one where he almost always wins something, or his third season where things fall apart.

Like their North London rivals, Tottenham haven’t suffered too badly with injuries this season. Serge Aurier will have a late fitness test on a calf issue but Giovani Lo Celso is still ruled out with a back issue.

These are just some of the games available to you this weekend. With so many games to choose from, the worry is wasting time on the wrong game. We’ll try and guide you in the right direction so that all you need to do is sit back, turn on your Liberty Shield VPN, settle in, and enjoy the games.
