Starting with football, Saturday at 1pm gives us the game of the weekend in La Liga as 6th placed Sevilla play host to 4th placed Real Sociedad. Sociedad made a great start to the season and were the early pacesetters before hitting a patch of black ice and skidding off course. They seem to have rectified their form but they face an in-form Sevilla team who have recovered from a poor start to the year. They are well placed for another top 4 finish this season, with games in hand on the teams above that could see them climb into 3rd place.

Switch to the Bundesliga at 5:30pm on Saturday for RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund. Leipzig are enjoying an excellent season having progressed in the Champions League and sitting only 2 points off Bayern at the top of the BuLi. Dortmund have had a bizarre season thus far, with Lucien Favre finally relieved of his duties after 2.5 years worth of under achieving. Dortmund have the most exciting young attack in Europe with Jadon Sancho, Gio Reyna and Erling Haaland at their disposal. Hopefully interim manager Edin Terzic can unlock the trio and help this team reach their potential.

To France for the 8pm kickoff, it’s a hipsters dream as Stade Rennais with Jeremy Doku and Eduardo Camavinga take on Lyon, with Houssem Aouar, Maxence Caqueret, Bruno Guimaraes and Memphis Depay. Lyon are top of the league, Rennes are 4th. Both teams are playing really entertaining football and this is already the most exciting Ligue 1 season since AS Monaco shocked everyone and beat PSG to the title.

On Sunday, Serie A gives us Juventus vs Sassuolo in what should be a very entertaining game. Juventus aren’t nearly the force they’ve been for the past nine years and currently sit 4th but did show signs of finding form when they ended AC Milan’s unbeaten start to the season in midweek. Sassuolo are Atalanta-lite, a wonderfully entertaining side playing attacking football with almost reckless abandon. They sit 5th in the table which is an amazing achievement given their budget.

There’s another great weekend of Rugby on the cards with the two domestic leagues once again taking centre stage. Both the Gallagher Premiership and Guinness Pro14 are well into their seasons and while we’re yet to see anyone establish themselves as definitively the best in England’s top league, Ulster look to be clearly the best team in this years Pro14. Both leagues have some big games scheduled for this weekend, with Exeter vs Bristol and Leinster vs Ulster the highlights. The games are scheduled as follows:

Gallagher Premiership

These games can be found live on BTSport.

Guinness Pro14

If you’re a cricket fan, I’m afraid the pickings are slim. Ireland are set to play the UAE in the first two of four one day internationals this weekend but I genuinely believe you’re more an obsessive than a fan if that catches your fancy.

The ATP and WTA Tennis seasons is underway and players are beginning preparations for the Australian Open next month. While there are no major tournaments this weekend there is action taking place in Turkey at the Antalya Open and Florida for the Delray Beach Open on the ATP side, while the WTA are in Abu Dhabi. None of the biggest hitters are taking part in these events but there should still be some good quality tennis played.

Never fear, golf is here. Or something like that. It’s the Sentry Tournament of Champions this weekend, live from Maui in Hawaii. Justin Thomas took home the winners prize of over a million dollars last year and is well positioned to retain his title after a solid first round.
